1 c. warm water
1/4 c. sugar
3 1/4 c. sifted flour
2 T. soft shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 package dry yeast
1 t. salt
1 egg
3 t. cinnamon
Dissolve yeast in water, add 1/4 c. sugar and beat thoroughly for 2 minutes. Add egg, shortening, and remaining flour. Cover with damp cloth and put in refrigerator. Punch down occasionally. About 2 hours before baking divide dough in thirds and roll each piece in a 12" circle on lightly floured board. Spread with soft butter, sugar and cinnamon mixture. Cut each in 8 wedges. Stretch wide. Stretch up. Place about 1" apart on greased baking sheet. Brush top with butter and let rise about 1 hour. Bake 15-20 minutes. Ice them with powdered sugar icing and sprinkle with nuts.
